A lot of myths are associated with bodybuilders or those who go to the gym. One popular one you may have read on social media is that bodybuilders have tiny manhoods due to the strenuous exercises they perform, and are totally useless or ineffective in bed. Apart from looking attractive due to their well toned bodies and wide chests, they cannot rise to the occasion. Use of food supplements and steroids by some of the musclemen has also been picked as a cause of this myth.

Recently crowned Mr America Bodybuilding Champion Meshack Ochieng says nothing could be further from the truth, but adds that those who overuse steroids may not function well.

"As a bodybuilder, I’m just a normal person with all the functions intact. The only time a bodybuilder would not perform marital acts is when he/she is overusing steroids and other banned substances. On my side I’m just a normal man with a wife and kids. These kids I got them years after starting bodybuilding so the myth that bodybuilders are incapable of other duties isn’t correct," Ochieng told Mozzart Sport in a tell-it-all interview.

The former Mr Kenya and Africa is a natural bodybuilder, and advises upcoming athletes to avoid steroids.

"My advice to upcoming athletes, please stay away from steroids. Train smart all the time not with ego. Injury is the worst thing for any sportsperson so train with care. I’m lucky not to have any injury since I started lifting weights."

According to NHS UK, Anabolic steroids can be used as performance-enhancing drugs that increase muscle mass and decrease fat, as well as causing many undesirable effects. Some athletes, weightlifters and bodybuilders take them regularly to improve their physical performance and build up their bodies.

However, people of all ages have been known to misuse these drugs, including adolescent boys who suffer from body dysmorphic disorder. This is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others.

People who have body dysmorphic disorder may take anabolic steroids because they don't see themselves as being physically big enough or strong enough.

Some people believe taking anabolic steroids will help them become fit and healthy. This isn't true: taking anabolic steroids is a dangerous drug habit.
